It’s the Story Barn experience in a new venue with the same open storytelling charm.

Bring along $5 and a mug for hot apple cider. Stories begin at 8pm. You are welcome to come to listen, but if our story charm should work its magic, you are welcome to share a tale. Adults only.

Each evening is a once-only experience, with a potential mixture of traditional, literary, original, and spontaneous stories, told by heart, and expressed in prose, poetry, or song by tellers experienced and novice.

Come to listen, come to tell.

Suggested length for first-time tellers: 5 minutes or less. Longer stories by new tellers should be approved by the Host before stories begin.

Bring a mug for cider or tea.

Introduction to Storytelling: A Beginners’ Workshop

Kait Taylor and Carolyn Wilker, members of the Baden Storytellers Guild, will be leading this workshop.

Bring your enthusiasm and your willingness to learn. Each participant will have opportunity in the workshop to learn and share a story. If you have a folk tale or other story you’ve been wanting to share with an audience, we’ll talk about choices of stories as well.

Cost of the workshop is $30.00. You can register one of two ways, either by sending an etransfer to Carolyn Wilker (cari.edit@rogers.comor by mailing a cheque (written to the Baden Storytellers’ Guild) to Carolyn Wilker (96 Briar Knoll Drive, Kitchener ON N2E 1Y2) by October 30th, to save your spot in the workshop.

Join renowned storyteller and writer Celia Lottridge to explore family stories.   The focus will be on imagining and shaping the story to make it a story an audience will enjoy.  Participants are encouraged to come with a potential story of two already in mind. Fee is $45.

Please register by April 20, 2018 to reserve your place at the workshop.

Celia Barker Lottridge is a writer and storyteller who has written several highly acclaimed award winning children’s books inspired by family stories, including Ticket to CurlewWings To Fly, and Home is Beyond the Mountains.  Celia has based many of her stories –both written and told on family stories.  She recorded CDs for the StorySave Program for SCCC. (Storytellers of Canada/Conteur Canada).

Book Launch : Brought to Light: More Stories of Forgotten Women

This is a reminder that the sequel to In the Wings, which is entitled Brought to Light: More Stories of Forgotten Women, is being launched Wed. Oct. 21st at 7 pm at the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas (please see the attached poster).  This book is also edited by Bernadette Rule.

It would be wonderful to see you there.  Many of the writers will be there to present their forgotten women.  I have a story of Catharine Coffin (of the Underground Rail Road) in this book, and will be one of the readers.

I hope you can join us for what I know will be a fascinating evening.

What this workshop is about?

In this workshop, we will explore together ways in which we can effectively develop stories for telling. In the true spirit of “workshoping,” our learning will be highly interactive and “hands on”. Some of the learning goals will include:

  • Choosing the “right” story ~ or, stories that choose you!
  • Plugging in to the power of your story ~ understanding a Story’s Flux Capacitor
  • Tools for the Teller ~ Structure, conventions and common senses

What do you need to bring?

Participants will need to bring their inner child, passion, curiosity, questions and invaluable experience.

Bob Tadman has been a storyteller for over forty years. He has provided workshops and courses for tellers at all ages and experience, including York University’s The Art of Storytelling. Bob has a wide repertoire of Folk Stories, Legends, Biblical Stories and Tall Tales, but he especially loves sharing Experience Stories for the way they ignite storytelling in others. A retired teacher and principal, Bob is passionate about creating connections and community through storytelling.
